Welcome to the synagogue where nobody is a stranger…..
We are delighted that you are considering joining our Temple Emanu-El family. Established in 1882, our congregation is the oldest, and largest Reform Jewish congregation in the state of Alabama. Our members include individuals and families of all ages – including multi-generational families, as well as those new to the Birmingham area. At Temple Emanu-El, we proactively create a loving, inclusive, intentional community, where all are welcome to learn and grow together through every facet of life.
You will find that Temple Emanu-El is far more than a synagogue – we are a dedicated “community” – a caring and supportive congregation that shares a culture of Jewish living. We offer a wide range of religious, educational, and community programs, including:
- Weekly Shabbat Services
- Holiday Services
- Monthly Tot Shabbat
- Religious & Hebrew School
- TEFTY – Youth Group
- Adult Education, including bi-weekly Torah study
- Brotherhood and Sisterhood
- Junior Choir
- Purim Carnival and other celebrations for the entire family
- Social action
- Caring and bereavement
- Small groups created around member interests
Temple Emanu-El’s financial model is called our Annual Financial Commitment. We recognize, fully, that our Temple would not exist without you – our congregation. Our membership options are listed in the column on this page. Please know that we value the uniqueness of each congregant and are committed to ensuring that no one will ever be turned away from our congregation for the inability to contribute. Please contact Monika Singletary, Director of Membership & Engagement, to work through any financial need, at monika@ourtemple.org or 205.933.8037, ext 213.
