Hanukkah & Havdalah Update from COVID Task Force – December 7, 2020

Dear Temple Family,

It is with sadness and concern for community well-being that the Staff and Covid-19 Task Force of Temple Emanu-El notify you of the need to cancel this coming Saturday night’s Havdalah and Hanukkah celebration at Homewood Patriot Park

As you likely can imagine, the event was originally planned with the expectation to gather safely outside as a congregation. Unfortunately, local and regional cases of COVID-19 are at an all-time high. In an effort to prioritize the safety and well-being of our congregation and after consultation with the Jefferson County Department of Health, the Task Force feels that gathering in this manner at this current time is irresponsible and puts our Temple family at high risk of exposure and possible illness. We, like you, are saddened by our inability to gather at this time and look forward to the future when we can once again congregate and celebrate the Jewish holidays in the manner we are all accustomed to.

We wish you well during these difficult times and hope that you are able to find joy and light during this season despite the unique issues of the day. As always, we are here for you if there are issues that we can clarify relating to this unfortunate cancellation.

As we look forward to Hanukkah this season, here are some suggestions from the CDC regarding ways in which we can all celebrate while keeping our families and communities safe: CDC link holiday celebrations

Though we cannot gather outside, the Temple Staff is planning a special Hanukkah program this Saturday night on our streaming services.
