Our Rabbi has been a Community Rabbi. He has been the spokesman for the Jewish Community of Birmingham. He was “the one” asked to speak at dinners and events and breakfasts. He was “the one” asked to speak and present at other churches and civic groups. He was “the one” asked his opinion for newspaper articles and tv news. He has been “the face” of Jewish Birmingham.
Our Rabbi has been a teacher, a mentor, a friend, a seeker, a traveler, a sympathetic ear and an empathetic listener. He has offered his help, his support, his guidance, his wisdom.
Our Rabbi speaks with ease. He speaks “off the cuff” and delivers a powerful punch when his remarks are written and prepared.
He commands an audience with his delivery and style. He has strong feelings, opinions and is willing to share them. He is passionate about Israel and civil rights and is not afraid to be “out there” telling folks so.
Our Rabbi loves his family. He has set the example that it is okay for a man to cry, to feel, to express his feelings of love and longing and happiness and sadness.
Our Rabbi knows how to laugh at himself. He knows what is important, and what is not. He knows how to roll with the punches and when to take a stand.
Jonathan Miller will always be Our Rabbi.
